Nissan and Verizon Partner Up to Use 5G, C-V2X for Highway Safety

by DMG Webmaster May 16, 2020
written by DMG Webmaster

Verizon and Nissan have successfully proved their initial concept of being able to create a system that is capable of notifying drivers of any dangers coming about behind any visual obstructions. The system depends on sensors mounted on the vehicle as well as sensors mounted on strategic positions on the roadside infrastructure, which allows this communication to occur. Another benefit of this is that Verizon intends to take all of the data processing on the network side, which relieves vehicles and roadside infrastructure. This has been made possible through the implementation of 5G edge computing and C-V2X (Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything).

What Are the Use Cases for This Technology?

Intersections always represent a risk of someone running a red light and anyone else blindly following their own green light for free passage. A good example of a use case for the 5G and C-V2X technology in this regard would be that the system would alert the law-abiding citizen that there is a car driving at a (too) high rate of speed from another branch in the intersection and allow for an educated decision to prevent a possibly fatal accident. The proof of concept had two specific use cases, as shown in the images below:

There are, obviously, countless other situations and road configurations where this type of technology can show its power, but for now, it is good to know that we have the technology and infrastructure required to make something like this happen. The CCTA (Contra Costa Transportation Authority) grant program is expected to test this technology in a controlled urban environment to check if there are any other issues that might affect the effectiveness of this concept.

Motorola is one of the longest standing tech companies, though it did go through some rough times. Originally it was founded in Chicago, Illinois, by Joseph and Paul Galvin in 1928. They acquired the Stewart Battery Company for US$750, and with a tiny bit of capital the first couple of months were rough. One of the biggest products Motorola ever introduced to the market was the first handheld portable telephone in 1971. Two decades later Motorola was acquired by Nokia in 1998. In 2002 Motorola introduced the world’s first wireless cable modem gateway, which was the ticket into the huge home networking business at the time.

If you are having issues with your Motorola networking hardware, we would first recommend that you visit our Motorola Troubleshooting section. Consumer networking gear has come a long way and there are many vendors to choose from these days. Netgear Inc. is consistently mentioned as one of the recommended choices, as their product line up is vast to say the least. We especially appreciate the effort and thought being put into their manuals as we have never had an issue with finding the appropriate Netgear Manual for any of the numerous devices. Still, as it is with almost any consumer product brand of the modern era, there are some caveats to know about when dealing with Netgear devices, such as somewhat limited product support system which keeps popping up as one of the worse aspects of their business.

The JGS524 is a 24 port Gigabit Ethernet switch, capable of delivering up to 2000 Mbps from each of the ports. Due to 10/100/1000 Mbps standard for every port, it is compatible with devices that require that standard to access the web. It is equipped with 802.1p QoS feature, which prioritizes video and voice within the network. The device comes in at 12.9 inches in width, 6.7 inches in depth and 1.7 inches in height, weighing in at just over 3.5 lbs. It is all packed in a tight, metal case which ensures durability and endurance in the long haul.

Qualcomm Forced Intel Out of Modem Chip Market

by DMG Webmaster May 9, 2020
written by DMG Webmaster

Qualcomm and Intel are currently in a dispute whether or not Qualcomm’s alleged malpractices forced Intel out of the modem chip manufacturing business. Apparently, Intel sold this segment of their business to Apple at a significant loss, which was due to Qualcomm’s alleged artificial and immoral competition practices which chokes out all competing products at a very early stage of development.

In January of 2020 we are expecting to see the conclusion of this dispute. Points that need to be cleared are whether or not Qualcomm did force problematic licensing practices, which would support the previous ruling where the U.S. Federal Trade Commission won the decision.

Intel has invested a lot of money, time and manpower to design and produce high tech products that will eventually find their way into Apple’s iPhones, but it is a shame to see Intel giving up on the business by selling it to Apple. It appears that they are only after potential damages done by Qualcomm, but far cry from getting back into this market in the long run.

Linksys Routers Soon Capable of Monitoring Vital Functions

by DMG Webmaster May 9, 2020
written by DMG Webmaster

Home security has come a long way, and with implementation of IoT into our everyday lives, it’s no wonder that we are seeing all kinds of innovations coming built into everyday devices. Linksys, being one of the leading router manufacturers has already innovated with the Velop Mesh router series, which are capable of detecting movement inside your house. As it stands now, they are up to even more detailed awareness within – health monitoring.

To be more precise, you do need a certain set of hardware for this kind of system to work as it should. You need Wellness Pods, Velop nodes and software called Linksys Aware, which is capable of tracking and processing breathing patterns, quality of sleep etc. This is all done without anyone having to carry a wearable device or a camera, making it completely autonomous in its operation. Obviously, this raised quite a few eyebrows as it does interfere with privacy.

Linksys managed to create this system by smart software which measures any discrepancies in radio wave strength in between at least two nodes also provided by Linksys. Frequency of measurement is up to 30Hz in such a basic configuration, but it is actually possible to increase this to 1500Hz. With this significant increase, a lot more data can be processed since any discrepancies are detected at a much higher rate, including breathing.

Currently there are no prices to be specifically mentioned, but at the time of writing this, you can get an annual subscription to Linksys Aware for only US$24.99.

Huawei Modem HG633 Manual

by DMG Webmaster May 8, 2020
written by DMG Webmaster

Huawei was founded by Ren Zhengfei in 1987. Prior to this, Ren was a member of the engineer corps in People’s Liberation Army, which helped to establish Huawei as a state-wide respected company, also aiding with national funding. This made Huawei a significant asset in China, especially when Chinese government banned foreign networking devices to be imported in 1996. Over the next couple of years Huawei noted significant growth, merging with 3Com in 2003 and receiving $US10 billion in credit in 2004. As of 2020, Huawei has become almost a victim of Chinese and U.S. government disputes, making it difficult for Huawei to do business on American soil.

Today, Huawei is covering a wide array of products, mostly focusing on mobile hotspots, routers and similar networking devices. If you are having issues with your device, chances are that it is a typical issue with that particular series. For problems like these, we can help you out with our Huawei Troubleshooting section.

If you misplaced your user manual or you purchased your Huawei device used and no manual was provided, don’t worry. Our Huawei User Manual library contains a large number of Huawei networking device manuals, official documents which contain every single bit of information you might need.
